For my last long training run before the Canadian Death Race 2023, I ventured out into the Canadian Rocky’s for a classic run from Upper Kananaskis Lake to Mt. Northover and back via Aster Lake.

The views on the way up to Mt. Northover were breathtaking. The ridge is quite exposed in sections and I can see why it creates apprehension among fellow hikers and trailrunners.

Stunning rock formations as far as the eye can see. While on the ridge, it was difficult to watch where I was going with all the amazing scenery.

One of my favorite parts of this run was the abundance of fossils embedded in the rocks around Aster Lake Campground. I’d love to come back with my nephews some day as they’d love this!

The weather held out for me and I enjoyed a beautiful 7-8 hours in the mountains with no rain and only mild wind considering the terrain. I rolled my ankle on the descent and suffered a first degree strain but I was able to make it to the car OK and begin my taper for the upcoming Canadian Death Race in a little over 2 weeks.
