Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim (R3)

One year ago today I set out on a 73km run across the Grand Canyon and back. With assistance from the Rim to Rim to Rim Facebook group, I set out to run down South Kaibab trail towards Phantom Ranch. In the early morning rush I managed to leave my headlamp on my hotel bed half an hour drive from the rim. Then in the taxi to South Kaibab trail my flasks leaked on my phone making it too wet to charge until the North Rim.

As such, I had an interesting start to the day and a quiet run to the North Rim which gave me a lot of time for contemplation. The temperatures were still relatively cool in the early morning hours.

Because of the time of year, the water was turned off near the North Rim so I managed to drink from a waterfall to hold me off until returning to the Manzanita rest area.

Someone made a snowman but I was ready to return to the warmer temps. I took a pic and turned around back down the rim

I followed the same trail back to Phantom Ranch and then took the Bright Angel trail back up to the South Rim.

The last few miles were some of the longest of my life but it was all worth it in the end.
